Bike adventures of all types will be part of Ciclopalooza, billed as San Antonio’s first do-it-yourself bike festival. Members of the public are encouraged to create and add their own events in this grassroots celebration of cycling that runs Oct. 12-22.
The festival features community-led bike rides, bike-friendly events, bike races, and bike shows throughout October, beginning with the Wild Dawgs Costume Ride on Friday the 13th and culminating with Síclovía on Oct. 22. Happening twice a year, Síclovía is a day-long festival at which Broadway Street from Mahncke Park to Alamo Plaza will be closed to motor vehicles and turned over to bike and pedestrian traffic.
Bike San Antonio, a new, local nonprofit that “serves as a unified and inclusive voice for cyclists,” according to its mission statement, recently released a calendar of cycling events in the community. Biking enthusiasts are invited to post their own cycling events throughout Ciclopalooza.
Here are a few Ciclopalooza highlights:
Riders are encouraged to wear costumes on this adult ride, which starts at Alamo Ice House and winds through a series of local bars. The ride ends with a costume contest, with the first-place winner taking home tickets to San Antonio’s Alamo City Comic Con.
