Frost Tower, the newest addition to San Antonio’s skyline, was celebrated Thursday at a “topping out” ceremony organized for the project’s construction workers.
The tower, which is on track for its early 2019 completion date, will become one of San Antonio’s tallest office buildings and will serve as the headquarters for Cullen/Frost Bankers upon completion.
The 440,000-square-foot office building, located at 111 W. Houston St. in a rapidly developing corridor downtown, will feature an additional 20,000 square feet in ground-level retail space plus a 400,000-square-foot parking garage.
New Haven, Connecticut-based Pelli Clarke Pelli designed the new Frost Bank Tower alongside local architectural consultant Alamo Architects. Maryland-based Clark Construction Group is the general contractor for the project.
The Frost Tower is the result of a 2014 public-private partnership facilitated by Weston Urban with Frost Bank and the City of San Antonio and is reportedly one of the largest such deals in San Antonio’s history.
As part of the agreement, the City will acquire from Frost the existing Frost Bank Tower at 100 W. Houston St., and its adjacent 700-plus-space parking garage to consolidate the City’s downtown offices currently spread out over several downtown buildings.
