With two days remaining in 2017, the Rivard Report is in the home stretch of its December fundraising drive and member recruitment and renewal campaign. New and renewing members have pushed us past $80,000 toward a $100,000 challenge grant made by the San Antonio-based Newman Family Foundation.
We are asking you, readers, to take the next step now and make a year-end, tax-deductible contribution to help us close the deal. Let's make the last 48 hours a memorable close to 2017 and a propitious start to 2018, San Antonio's Tricentennial year. Click here to donate or to renew or increase your 2017 donation and help the Rivard Report earn a dollar-for-dollar match.
Your donations fund Rivard Report journalists, including new hires that will be announced by Editor-in-Chief Beth Frerking early in the new year.
Earlier this month, new and renewing members helped the Rivard Report earn a $28,000 challenge grant from News Match, a national campaign created to encourage local community support for nonprofit news organizations. News Match is funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Democracy Fund, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The News Match campaign will be the first time the Rivard Report has received funding from national foundations that have an expressed interest in funding nonprofit news.
The Rivard Report, which turns six years old in February and reorganized as a 501(c)3 nonprofit in August 2015, is one of more than 140 nonprofit online news enterprises operating in U.S. cities and state capitals that belong to the Washington, D.C.-based Institute for Nonprofit News. In keeping with INN best practices, the Rivard Report discloses the sources of all its donations from foundations, philanthropists, and business and individual members.
The work of the staff of 15 journalists and business team members is underwritten in San Antonio by major donors as well as more than 1,200 members who contribute annually or on a sustaining basis for $5, $10, $25 a month.
