Bonnie Arbittier / Rivard Report
Starting Monday, June 25, several downtown bus stops and routes will be moved as the City of San Antonio embarks on street improvement projects expected to take about two years in the city’s central business district.
Construction activity is expected to impact vehicle, pedestrian, and bus traffic along Commerce Street between North Santa Rosa Avenue and North St. Mary’s Street. Additional lane closures are planned for several downtown streets including Buena Vista Street, Dolorosa, and West César E. Chávez Boulevard between South Santa Rosa Avenue and South Frio Street.
Work to replace the Commerce Street bridge near San Pedro Creek – a Bexar County project – will begin on Monday. Then a “block-by-block” renovation of Commerce Street to improve both walkability and drivability is slated to begin this fall, according to Paul Berry, spokesman for the City’s Transportation and Capital Improvements department.
“When it’s done, it’s going to be awesome,” Berry said.
