Methodist Healthcare System CEO Allen Harrison

Methodist Healthcare System named Allen Harrison its new CEO on Thursday, filling the position vacated by Jaime Wesolowski, who will become CEO of Methodist Healthcare Ministries within the next 60 days.

Harrison is currently the CEO of Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital in San Antonio.

The nine-hospital Methodist Healthcare System is the largest provider of health care in South and Central Texas and is co-owned by Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas and Virginia-based HCA Healthcare.

The system’s search committee received 100 applications from across the U.S., including several internal candidates, Dan Johnson, chair of Methodist Healthcare’s board of governors, stated in a news release.

In the end, Allen was our unanimous decision as he clearly demonstrated his business acumen, his strong belief in faith and humanity and his ability to identify exceptional talent and be an unwavering servant leader,” Johnson said.

Johnson added that the duo of Harrison and Wesolowski would provide “an even greater future for both our organizations.”

Methodist Healthcare System is San Antonio’s second largest private employer with more than 10,000 team members and 2,700 physicians. It serves 94,000 inpatients and 500,000 outpatients annually, according to the news release.

Harrison has a Bachelor’s of Biomedical Engineering degree from Oral Roberts University, a Master’s of Biomedical Engineering degree from the University of Virginia, and an MBA from the University of Colorado at Denver.

He joined HCA Healthcare in 2002 as vice president of business development at The Medical Center of Aurora. After other executive roles in Denver and Austin, he became CEO of Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital in 2017.

Johnson said the search for a new CEO for the Methodist Hospital campus would begin immediately.

  1. I was very disappointed in my sons stay at this hospital. My son soiled himself after a enima and I had to clean him by myself while nurse was in room!

    • I just want to add to my experience: on Tuesday August 28, 2018. My son was admitted. I was very worried about the situation that occurred. My son was admitted due to having constipation and vomiting. He was very ill. Someone came to me early asking to fill out a survey which (at the time)was not a problem. This was ok, but, later, I was wondering why I was not helped. He was very sick and got the bed very dirty and as issue I bathed him. Thr nurse left the room and she did not help me and she left the bed filthy. I was thinking she would help me. But I had to do it ALONE.
