On the way to his upset mayoral victory last month over incumbent Ivy Taylor, Ron Nirenberg made leadership and vision a focus of his campaign. How that vision takes shape will be the topic of a luncheon conversation with the new mayor next month.
The Rivard Report is partnering with the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to offer an opportunity to converse with Nirenberg on Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the Pearl Stable. To register for the event, click here.
The conversation will center on the mayor’s agenda and vision for San Antonio. The event includes a luncheon at noon.
“Throughout my campaign, I heard from hundreds of residents about their interest in having a voice and role in city government,” Nirenberg said. “It’s opportunities like these that create a platform for constructive dialogue, elevate the voices of those we’re here to serve, and help guide me as I work to accomplish our goals as a city.

Rivard Report Director Robert Rivard will moderate the event with Nirenberg. Ramiro Cavazos, President & CEO of the Hispanic Chamber, will provide opening remarks.
“We are excited to partner with the Rivard Report to provide our business members a platform to interact with our new Mayor and ask questions in an intimate setting,” Cavazos said.
Nirenberg’s surprise nine-point victory over Taylor in a June 10 runoff elevated him from the District 8 City Council seat into the mayor’s office. Working with a City Council that includes six new members, he faces a busy slate of business, including finalizing the fiscal year 2018 budget and considering revisions to the City Charter. Ethics and campaign finance reform, aligning the scheduling of local elections with state and federal elections in November, and extending terms are changes Nirenberg has said he would like to see advance to a citywide vote.
Nirenberg and the new Council will play a key role in shaping the evolving Alamo Master Plan, oversee implementation of the SA Tomorrow comprehensive plan and at least a portion of the $850 million 2017 bond. The mayor’s office also will influence the events planned for San Antonio’s Tricentennial celebrations in 2018.
Organizers have reduced individual ticket prices from $65 to $50 to make the luncheon event more affordable for individuals. Space is limited.
