Alamo Beer Company's $8 million brewery officially opened to the public on Saturday. After a ceremonial keg tapping and cannon shot, the festivities continued late into evening – drawing hundreds of San Antonians to the Eastside, curious to meet their new neighbor.

The well known Alamo Golden Ale was in large supply but four other beers joined the party, including a Pilsner, Amber Lager, German Pale Ale, and Maibock. Musical performances from Black Bird Sing, Max Baca, and Los Texmaniacs with special guest and living legend Augie Meyers kept everyone energized and dancing.

I live in Dignowity Hill, and from my perspective the brewery has already had a positive impact on my neighborhood. The streets leading up to the brewery were filled with families and cyclists. A walk along the Hays Street Bridge was accompanied by the raspy vocals of Augie Meyers with a squeezebox bellowing those faithful sounds that many locals have a special place for in their hearts.
