“The Saga,” a video art installation projected onto the façade of the San Fernando Cathedral by the French artist, Xavier de Richemont turned one on Saturday. The installation has at least nine years left to illuminate the historical Cathedral in Main Plaza.
The 24-minute installation ignites the cathedral with vibrant kaleidoscope-like images that depict the history of San Antonio. Calling himself a video painter, de Richmond uses music and video to narrate the founding story of San Antonio. Beginning with the indigenous people of the area, transitioning to the arrival of the Canary Islanders who built the San Fernando Cathedral, and moving forward from the Battle of the Alamo to current events, the installation brings lights, color and action together to create an educational yet psychedelic experience for the viewer.
The multimedia work will be projected onto the cathedral Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 9, 9:30 and 10 p.m.
