Michael Sawaya, who oversees the convention center and the Alamodome and is one of the longest-tenured department heads with the City of San Antonio, has resigned to accept a position at the convention center in New Orleans.
When tens of thousands of runners line up at the start for this weekend’s Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in San Antonio, they will be protected by security measures adopted in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013 and the recent mass shooting in Las Vegas, event organizers said.
The donation will be supplemented by $3 million from the City of San Antonio and includes improvements to the sound system and new video screens.
The San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau (SACVB) has enormous responsibility in performing sales, marketing, and service activities for one of the most vital contributors to San Antonio’s economy – tourism and hospitality.
