More than 22,000 runners took to the slick streets of downtown San Antonio Sunday during the 10th annual Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon.

The layer of fog that hung over the city’s skyline prior to the race’s 7:15 a.m. start transformed into a strong bout of rain about an hour in. Participants braved the wet weather, thriving on runner’s highs, spectators’ cheers, energetic music, and pure adrenaline.

San Antonio’s own Erik Burciaga finished first in the men’s marathon with a time of 2:41:59. Caroline Veltri won the women’s race, completing the 26.2-mile course in 2:56:09.

At age 72, local attorney Larry Macon completed his 2000th marathon.
