Four zip codes in San Antonio have more than 12 percent of households comprising people who are unmarried and living with a partner, according to the most recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS).
The ACS defines an unmarried-partner household as one that includes a householder and an unmarried partner of the same sex or the opposite sex, who is unrelated, shares living quarters, and a close personal relationship.
Such millennial hot spots as the Pearl, Denver Heights, and Brooks City Base have the highest percentages of unmarried-partner households in the city, according to ACS data from 2016. Nationwide, the number of unmarried partners living together is on the rise, up 29 percent since 2007, according to 2016 estimates from the Pew Research Center.
