Bauhaus Media Group has operated in San Antonio for more than 23 years. In that time the production company has worked with almost every sector of San Antonio and even much of the nation. The group has produced commercials, movies, promotions and music videos for clients including University of Incarnate Word, the San Antonio Spurs, Holt Equipment and even The White House.

Bauhaus Group Director and Executive Producer Luis Muñoz has an equally impressive portfolio all his own. Born and raised in Guatemala, Muñoz claims that his passion for television and video production was “love at first sight,” after first working in the restaurant industry. After discovering his passion for television, Muñoz quickly left his restaurant position to accept an unpaid internship at Guatemala’s TC Network.

He rose quickly to a Senior Producer position in less than two years at the network and eventually moved on to run a wildly popular music program in the U.S. entitled “Tejano Country.”  Muñoz also worked with Galavision and Univision during his time at TC to develop a host of national programs for both networks.

Luis eventually left TC in 2000, moving to San Antonio to accept a position as Senior Producer for Bauhaus Media Group. After a four years with Bauhaus, Luis was recruited to become the Executive Producer of the Kens 5 program “Great Day SA” the self-proclaimed #1 morning show in San Antonio. About 1,300 episodes and five years later,  Muñoz has returned to Bauhaus to “finish what he started.”

Bauhaus’ portfolio of work is impressive both in size and clientele. To appreciate the full breadth of the company’s abilities, check out their website. The piece I have chosen as today’s feature may not be the highest budget piece the company has produced, but it deftly captures why I love writing about  film in San Antonio. This film celebrates both film and the community of San Antonio itself.

Inspired by the original “Free Hugs Campaign” which became a viral internet sensation in 2004, Muñoz and Bauhaus capture the same spirit on the streets of downtown San Antonio by planting individuals with handmade “Free Hug” signs on some of the city’s most iconic street corners. Bauhaus then filmed the results and assembled the video below.
